Saturday, October 22nd, 2005[Entry 407]and it's so hard to see you clearly...
Woke up wayyyyy early this morning to go with my parents to the Marshall Field's warehouse sale. My mom wanted this new bedroom set...and so we went. We found the dresser she wanted...and after finding out all clearance furniture was 10% off today only, off we went to the actual store.
I know this MAY seem shocking...but I do not shop department stores. In fact, I probably step into a mall only once or twice a year. I looooooathe it all. Plus I am still resentful of the fact that Marshall Field's eliminated the Hudson's name (in this area, most of us still call Marshall Field's "Hudson's"). I could rant and rave about whiney Chicagoans boo-hooing about the Marshall Field's name being eliminated...but I'll just say this: Marshall Field's eliminated a historic name in our town. It's a part of the retail world. It sucks, but whatever.
ANYWAY. We found the rest of the bedroom pieces my mom wanted (and today is my dad's b-day so happy b-day to Dad! He got a new bedroom set---what he always wanted!!!). My mom re-opened her charge...so she had an additional off. The first thing I wanted to do was check out the shoes. Even though I suspected I wouldn't find shit (and I didn't). But right next to the shoes was the chick's optical department.
I have been crying for sunglasses almost every single day of my life since I stopped wearing contact lenses. My Oakley sunglasses were attached at my freaking hip: I hate squinting and I hate driving in the sun. Somehow I've managed in the 2ish+ years I have been exclusively wearing glasses. But it sucks! The thing that sucks more is that my LENSES cost soooo much because I'm legally blind and in order to see the best, I need to have all these fancy schmancy thin, undistorted lenses. Just to give you an idea...lenses cost me about $200---and then you have to throw in the frame.
So anyway, this Marshall Field's optical department wasn't huge...but they had some fun stuff! And they carried Lafont...which I found interesting. My green pair of glasses from back in the day were Lafont. I hemmed and hawed about sunglasses...and then realized I would get 15% off if I charged them on my mom's MF's card today. So I grab the pair of Miu Miu sunglasses that you see there on the left...only in black with silver roses on the side. Yeah, crazy huh? Honking hugeass glasses. I was completely trusting my mother's judgement at that time, however, because when I try on glasses, I can't very well see how they look on me (totally rad!). But I was really excited about these...in the extreme blurryness that I could see them on my face.
Then the news. I can't get them. Why? Because my face is technically too small. If my eyes were wider apart, they coulda put a prescription in. But no. At that point, I was SO sold on the luxury of a pair of sunglasses, I grabbed this pair of Anna Sui glasses and just said, "I don't care! I just need a pair!" They're a bit more..."conservative" than the Miu Miu glasses. But they're still funky. They're black and white (unfortunately I can't find a picture of them on the web). Black front with white trim and the sides have hippy-like flowers in white. They'll do:-) Plus Anna Sui grew up in the Detroit area...so I guess this is my props to Ms. Sui. LOL, even if I will dream forever of the Miu Miu glasses that almost were...
