Saturday, October 15th, 2005[Entry 403]don't compromise what's gold...
I just finished watching the movie Wisegirls...and it wasn't half bad. I don't even remember what sparked my interest...as I recorded it a couple of days ago. I guess I saw "2002" and "Mariah Carey" in the description and I thought, "This will be good..." Mira Sorvino is in it, too. For some reason, I've always liked her. I don't know why. I just have.
Last night I went to the "grand opening" of the Grinnell Building down by Corktown. The buildings being converted into loft/condos (like every other building that has "action" downtown). I had seen the building before...but it was interesting to see two of the model units done. I think it's in a real great location (a few blocks away from Tiger's Stadium off Michigan Ave). Unfortunately, I thought we were arriving "fashionably late" but it I guess it was just plain "late." The booze and food were gone by the time we got there. Not that the booze was all consumed; as we were walking up, someone was bringing a case of wine down. Bah humbug to that!
This morning I drove by the Statler. Fucking depressing. It's practically a pile of rubble. It was such a massive building. And now it is a pile of rubble. Ok, so some portion of it still exists. But whatever. I thought, "Man, I should've brought my camera." But I'm not so sure I want to document the stupid things that happen downtown. Even with that negativity...I dunno, I was kind of overwhelmed by how nice everything looks down there. Ok, so most of the "niceness" is construction in progress...but I don't know. There's still derelict buildings spotting the landscape. Maybe it was just feeling good about the nice weather and all the greenery planted for the All-Star Game this past summer. Whatever it was...
TV shows I am currently addicted to: America's Next Top Model, The Real World: Austin (surprise, me addicted to The Real World), My Name Is Earl, The Office, The Adam Corolla Project, SuperNanny, Dream House (HGTV), The Look For Less (Style), Designed to Sell (HGTV), Househunters (HGTV), and Buy Me (HGTV). Believe it or not, Buy Me is probably the most annoying out of all these programs. It's a Canadian show. I also think they tend to profile people with the strongest Canadian accents ever...as if it's a requirement on their call out. And the people selling their homes are sooooo dumb! They always put the blame on their realtor as to why their house isn't selling. This woman was in tears because she felt her realtor wasn't advertising her house enough. When really, the house was a clusterfuck. Had three foundation cracks. Looked like shit from the outside (included a boat in the driveway and a pop-up camper in the backyard). Every room was painted a hideous, bright color (like hot green). And the place was a pig-sty! Her husband walked into his kid's bedrooms...there would be shit everywhere... pouring out of the closets...all on the floor...and he would say [in the strongest Canadian accent ever], "this looks alright. People will see it's a kid's room and be ok with it." Yeah. Um. NO. It was gross.
Wow. Rant about a show shown on HGTV. I'm so rad!
