Friday, June 10th, 2005[Entry 338]and nothing else compares...
Hey. I know I haven't been updating consistantly. But I haven't had a choice since Wednesday evening. That is when we got some massive storms in the area. Horrible amounts of rain. We lost power for a second...and we had low power all night. It was RAD. I went to bed at 10:30. Thursday morning, power seemed to be back on par (yet internet was down). Get home from work and it was low again. It was low all evening. It still seems a bit low right now.
Anyway...that's where I'm at. Lots to update on. Perhaps more tonight...
---
Wasn't going to update because I am sooooo exhausted...but I figure I better update now because I think this weekend will be a busy one.
Well, Mrs. Chester died yesterday. She was 93 years old. My parents and I went to the wake this evening. Was interesting seeing everyone from those days. Mrs. Chester sure lived a long life. She was still coming into the Boot Shop to work, she came in last Saturday. That doesn't surprise me, though. She really enjoyed spending her time there.
Last night I went to a loft building's grand opening. It was awesome. I had seen the building while they were just framing the walls in...so it was really neat to see two of the units near completion. This building has my favorite view of the city (Detroit, duh). Plus there was free wine and desserts (and sushi but I'm not into that).
Mr. Mayor himself showed up at the event. His bodyguards almost knocked my mom over. His entourage was totally un-necessary; the place was packed, but packed with total white bread middle to upper class people. Was the entourage necessary? I think it exists just to draw attention to himself. "Look at me! I'm the mayor, bitch!" Was kind of awkward to be caught in the bathroom of one of the units as he and his fifty-billion peeps came into the unit and peaked their head into the bathroom. We had to wait until the crowd went by to exit. Definitely was an inappropriate time and place to start shouting at him about how ignorant he is. Oh well. "Hey, shoulder-pad-loving-bonehead! I got something to say to yoU!"
My friend, who invited me to the event, gave me the coolest gift ever (it's related to my favorite building in the city). Seriously. One of the coolest things I have ever received. I think my jaw may have dropped open when he gave it to me.
It's been hectic at work, as well. Roughly about two weeks ago, my "officemate" and I were given more responsibilities. Which is totally rad...I'm always open to more responsibilities on top of the fact it's an entirely different sort of thing that I usually work on...so I'll be learning about an entirely different thing---totally gungho on learning how things work. This week, we were given even more responsibilities. Which is even greater. But at the same time, things are going to be kind of rough for awhile; she and I are now doing the jobs of four people. We'll get into our groove, it will just take awhile. But again, definitely amped about it.
Alrighty. There's my update.
Oh wait. And I went and bought the new Coldplay cd. You like how I talk shit about how I'm not even interested...and then I go and buy it mere days later? Even though the power was low on Wednesday night, I risked it (because I was freaking bored as hell) and turned on my tv...just in time to catch the premiere of Coldplay's Storytellers. And I enjoyed it and I realized that there are a few reasons why I wasn't "excited" about the new cd: 1. the critical aclaim and media coverage of the band (this is why I "disliked" Radiohead after the release of Ok Computer, and see what a dumb dislike THAT was) 2. the total tons of radio play. And I don't know why this annoys me and how I know this because I hardly ever listen to radio, but whatever and... 3. Gwenyth Paltrow. ENOUGH SAID. BUUUUUUT...those are the dumbest reasons ever. So what if Coldplay didn't do the Pearl Jam thing and shy away from the press? Do I really have to hate them for seeing their faces on a bazillion magazine covers? No. Because when push comes to shove, they make music I like and respect. So, hah! I did it.
