the only direction we flow is down...

Today is my grandma's 83rd birthday. And she's just as spunky as ever. We went out to eat as a family to celebrate. We went to a breakfast-y type place---you know, the types of places grandparents love. I had hot cocoa---even though it was like 60 degrees out at that point in the day. We had some cake at our house and then I went with my mom and dad to drop her off. My dad cut her lawn, and I sat on her porch. Contimplating whether or not I needed to listen to my iPod or not. Sometimes silence is good. Maybe I'm crazy. But there really are a lot of moments where I feel music is just...not...right. Anyway, my grandma walked by me and she kicked one of the cat water dishes as she did so. The water just missed my purse...it got sprinkled on a little bit. I said, "Hey! My purse!" My grandma goes, "Sorry. Why don't you put it back over by the water and I'll kick the water again." Hahah. She's too funny.

My grandmother also took the time to tell me, Gen, and Aaron that she thinks my grandpa was going "cuckoo" before he died. My grandfather died in 1992---and this is the first time she brings this up and starts telling us stories to back up her theory? She's too funny. I will say that time and time again...she's too funny.

Today I got something I have wanted for years...but didn't "need" so I didn't comb the ends of the earth searching for it. I have nice non-Christmas lights in my room. And I looooove the mood they give off (yes, a room can give off a mood)...but in order for me to plug them in and unplug them...just too much effort. If I am listening to music in my bed at night, the last thing I want to do is get out of bed, turn on my reading light, and unplug the lights. So what I've wanted for years was an extension cord with a switch on it. Since stores are getting Christmas shit in, I lucked out and found a really cool extension cord with a "foot" switch. It's intended to be used for your lights on your Christmas tree...and it has a foot pedal to turn them off or on. I'm using it as a finger switch. And I am so excited about being able to use my non-Christmas lights again!

This evening I watched Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for the first time. It was a two hour special and featured a family that lives close to where I live. It was (surprise, surprise) a big deal in the media over here. But it was a great thing to watch...the parents were deaf and they had two songs. A 14 year old "normal" boy and then a younger son that was born blind and is also autistic.

And on a totally unrelated note...
I placed my pre-order for the horrible Rearviewmirror Pearl Jam greatest hits cd. It's so awful. The tracklist; awful. The artwork; even awfuller. But I can't help my completist issues. I ordered the damn thing. I could care less when I have it in my hands...it will just get shelved anyway. Stupid Sony music.
