Monday, March 8th, 2004[Entry 59]i'm bout to throw some game...
Been while since I typed out an entry, huh?
Friday I hung out with Bob and Rich. We went to eat and then just hung out.
Saturday, I did a lot of homework and then later went to go see my brother's last Pop Concert performance ever. He had a solo this year, he performed Azwethinkweiz by (surprise, surprise) Incubus. There were some really fun performances this year. I think Aaron was about to have a mental breakdown when Shock the Monkey was performed. I've never seen Aaron so excited about anything...ever. It was quite hilarious.Yesterday was the night we had all been waiting for...the night of Luda (or "The night of Chingy" if you ask Rich). Me, Bob, and Rich went and ate at Shield's and then got downtown way too early (or so we thought) so we just putzed around at Johnny Rockets. I was really happy to find out they have Mr. Pibb's there. Mmmm. We had a good time laughing at all the naked sluts going to the concert in their tube tops and shit. Girls are so dumb. So after we had putzed for what seemed like an adequate amount of time, we headed towards the State Theater. Doors had opened at 6:30, it was now like 6:45/7:00...so we thought we wouldn't have to wait long in line.
Yeah right. State Theater has the most intense security out of any Detroit venue...and furthermore, this was a rap show, so security was even more intense than usual. They now will not let the line wrap around the side of the State Theater...so the line goes down Woodward, down to Adams where you wrap around the Fyfe Building...and the line continued down a couple of blocks. It was ridiculous. And it was cold. And it was sort of rainy. By the time we could finally see the State Theater while in line... it was hardcore snowing.
It was sort of fun, though. I mean, I wish I had a hat so I would have been warmer...but it was just the sneak preview of what sort of interesting folks would be in the venue for the show. I was also quite excited to see that they are renovating the Kales Building and turning it into condos/apartments. The Kales Building was SS Kresge's HQ for awhile (SS Kresge became K Mart). It was built by Albert Kahn and from the front facade, it looks a lot like my favorite building (also by Albert Kahn), the Vinton Building. (Oh yeah! Bob is awesome and got me an Albert Kahn book I have never seen before for my birthday! Thanks Bob!) Anyway, I've never stood on Adams in that section. It was cool because when I had to draw a couple of times on Washington Blvd...when you looked down the street, in the distance, you saw the Fyfe Building. In fact, I have a couple of line drawings of the Fyfe Building. Back then, of course, I did not know anything about it. And I think I drew it because I was sick of drawing...period.
I got into the show much quicker than Rich and Bob. Girls pat down was much quicker than the guys pat down. Sure, there were a lot of guys there... but there were plenty of [slutty] females, too.
We had balcony...which I was excited about for two reasons: 1, I was pulled out of the "pit" last time I saw Ludacris because I was getting the bejesus squeezed out of me and 2, I have never sat in the balcony at the State Theater. I've been there around 10 or so times for concerts or other events. The balcony was PACKED. We spotted some empty seats towards the top. We ended up in the very last row. It was kind of scary, to be honest. During Knoc-Turn'Al's set, I went to the bathroom. I said I've never been on the balcony, so with that said, I've never used the bathrooms in the balcony...only the bathrooms in the basement. The balcony bathrooms were scary. They were totally 1920s. There were only three stalls (of which two were working). The ceiling was angled and very short. It was freaky. Combine that with intense bass, and perhaps you may want to cry.
There was some other dude in-between Knoc-Turn'Al's set and Chingy...but I have no idea who the dude was. I was too busy closing my eyes and dozing and also peope watching. I don't know why people want to pay $35 to go to a show...only to make out and grope each other. It's a lot cheaper to just stay at home and do that. Let's see...this is how exciting our section was...
...straight down about 10 or so rows and to our right, was a group of people who thought they were on MTV's The Grind. One dude never would have made it on the show.Chingy was...Chingy. Luda was...typical Luda. Just like the last time I saw him, he plugged the shit out of Shawna...and I'm sorry, no one gives a shit about Shawna. He needs to just give up on her. We were kind of pissed because Luda's set was only an hour. And he didn't even do Roll Out or Saturday. He closed the show with Move Bitch...so I can't really complain, can I? There was an "after party" at Club Bleu. We just figured we weren't cool enough to go, so we went home. Hehe....in front of us were a group of about 5 or 6 guys. One girl from the previous group came up and starting talking to one of the guys. She ended up throwing herself at him and making out with him throughout someone's set. This is when Bob and Rich saw the guy steal her cellphone and pass it to his friends. Eventually the chick leaves the guy, goes back to her friends...and realizes her cellphone was stolen. She and her friend look for it. The guys do not confess. She seemed upset for about three minutes, but then she started getting freaky to the music and all was well in her world. Cellphone, schmellphone.
...and in our same row, the last row, to our right, was a couple who would have certainly had full-on sex if she was only wearing a skirt. I didn't have a great view like Bob and Rich did...but I definitely saw some booby touching. I saw her trying to take off her bra.
So even if the show was...alright...it was probably worth the price of admission for the entertainment brought forth by our fellow fans. Definitely.
So there...there's my update.
