Wednesday, March 3rd, 2004[Entry 57]no way in or out...
I just got back from the lecture on Detroit historic hotels. Anytime I witness or partake in a discussion about the city of Detroit...I'm left in this weird mode. I'm like somewhere in-between very depressed and optimistic. I know, that's very strange, huh? I hate to drill more Detroit stuff in here...but I'm just so touched by the city. I can't ignore it. That's why I think I NEED to be involved with the city. I talked all this grand talk of moving to Chicago. I talked all this grand talk about keeping my options open. I'll still "keep my options open" but I think the venue where I'll do best in is in someway helping change the city of Detroit for the better...because the state of such things in Detroit literally make my heart hurt.
So this speech was put on by The Friends of the Book-Cadillac. One of the speakers was an architect that graduated from UDM. One of the other persons there was the author of the book written about the Book-Cadillac and Statler hotels. It was as if I was witnessing rockstars speak or something. I was in awe.
It just boggles my mind that we have lost so many historic buildings in the city of Detroit and there's still the threat of losing so many more. Beyond the fact that the Book-Cadillac was a fancy piece of work...there's so many little things that make it so significant to Detroit history. Many celebrities and presidents stayed at that hotel. It's named after Cadillac...hello. And the Cadillac (as in the car) emblem was the Cadillac family seal...which was used as a motif throughout the hotel. That means something to the city. Well, it should. I just hope it all works out ok in the end. And then maybe I can buy a condo in that place.
Anyway...
I have a huge headache and I am sooooo exhausted. So much crap to do, too.
Oh! But my mom dyed my hair today...so I now don't have crappy gross root-action anymore. Two more boxes of hairdye to go...I am recording Kingdom Hospital. Hey, I'm a sucker for Steven King shit. Even the bad stuff like Rose Red. Kinda upset I missed it tonight...guess I'll have to watch it tomorrow. Damn...it's a 15 hour series. But I get into that stuff...like Taken. Wish I still had all those episodes on tape to watch! It's totally not worth spending like $100 for the DVD set...but that was a good mini-series. Ok. Finale of Carmen and Dave...must go.
